FAQ’s

Q: What is an R.V.?
A: An R.V. is a recreational vehicle that combines transportation and living quarters for travel, recreation and camping, that can be used year-round. R.V.’s can be towed by a car, SUV, mini-van or pickup truck and unhitched upon arrival at your destination to give you full use of the tow vehicle. There are also motorized R.V.’s that combine transportation and living quarters in one unit. These range in size from vans up to a large bus size. Recreational vehicles include a wide array of options from the very basic to the best in luxury. Small, basic R.V.’s can have running water, cooking, sleeping, and bathroom facilities as well as air conditioning and entertainment systems. Whatever your needs, you can find something to suit your lifestyle!

Q: Why R.V.?
A: Most RVers will say that the biggest reason they R.V. is that it allows them freedom. RVing gives you the freedom to travel virtually anywhere – from wilderness camping in style and comfort, to your favorite sporting event, to visiting family or friends with your own accommodation, your R.V. is your home away from home! RVing is less expensive than staying in hotels and motels, you are able to prepare your own food, and you have everything you need at hand without having to pack and unpack your suitcase when you arrive at your destination.

Q: Do I require a special license to drive a motorhome, tow a trailer, or tow a fifth wheel?
A: Usually, no, you do not need a commercial licence if you plan to use a passenger vehicle to tow a trailer or while towing with a fifth wheel. However, depending on the total weight of the vehicle and towed vehicle, you may need a special endorsement on your passenger vehicle licence. This endorsement may require that you take a commercial vehicle licence test. You may also need a special endorsement if your motor home is towing something in excess of maximum permitted weight. If your motorhome has air brakes, you will also need an air brake endorsement. For more information, contact your local driver licensing office.

Q: Where can I find a sani dump in the Tri-Cities area?
A: Right here at our site! In addition to an easily accessible sani-dump, we also have a propane fill station, and a 6,000 square foot parts and accessories store for all of your R.V. needs. Click on “contact us” for a map to our location.

Q: How often should my recreational vehicle exterior be checked for leaks?
A: Periodically checking your RV for leaks before water starts pouring in will help you extend the life of your RV and will save you from a very expensive repair bill. We recommend that you have the sealant on your RV’s roof seams, vents, mouldings, and windows checked at least once per year for peace of mind.

Q: How often should I have the brakes on my trailer or fifth wheel inspected/serviced?
A: It is recommended that you have the brakes on your towable inspected and the bearings re-packed after every 6000 kms travelled. Call our service department to schedule a Brake Safety Check for your trailer or fifth wheel.

Q: How often should the propane system on my RV be inspected?
A: You should have your propane system, including all of your propane appliances, inspected and serviced yearly to ensure proper operation. Although leaking propane can be very dangerous, it is easily detected because of it’s distinct smell. Carbon Monoxide, a by-product of improperly functioning fuel burning appliances, has no odour and is a very dangerous gas that can kill very quickly. Ensuring that your propane appliances and systems are operating normally will allow you peace of mind in knowing that your family is safe. In addition, for added safety, make sure that your RV is equipped with a properly functioning CO detector.

Q: When is it necessary to have my propane system certified?
A: It is strongly recommended that you have the propane system on your RV certified prior to selling it. This will allow you peace-of-mind knowing that you have done your due diligence in ensuring the safety of the new owners.

Q: We store our RV in an open lot for the winter. Should we put a tarp over it to protect it from the elements?
A: Covering your RV with a traditional vinyl tarp is one of the worst things that you can do, because a tarp will trap excess moisture and create more condensation in your RV. There are special RV covers available made from materials that are weather resistant while allowing air flow through the cover to prevent excess moisture. Contact our Parts Department for more information.

Q: Is there a way to protect the interior of my RV from condensation and excess moisture in the months that we are not using it?
A: There are a number of different moisture control products available, depending upon how and where you store your RV. Moist Remover Containers that use calcium chloride crystals to absorb moisture from the air are a popular option. They must be checked every 3-4 weeks, the liquid removed and more crystals added. If you have access to power, there are low voltage heaters available that are designed specifically for storage. They throw off only enough heat to keep the unit dry and use approximately the equivalent of a 100-watt light bulb for power.  Contact our Parts Department for more information.

Q: What should be done with the fuel in our motorhome while it is in storage?
A: Fuel-storage additives are available in-store for either gasoline or diesel fuel. Dispense additive according to package instructions while adding fuel, top off the tank, and then drive around to further mix the additive prior to storing the vehicle.

Q: How do we keep odours from our holding tanks from seeping into our trailer?
A: First of all make sure that you are using a good holding tank chemical in both your black and gray water tanks. A good chemical not only takes care of the odour in your tanks, it breaks down the waste so that it can be properly expelled from the tanks. Also, be sure to use a tank wand (available from our Parts Department) every time you dump your holding tanks. In addition, if you are connected to sewer, do not leave the drain valve to your tanks open, as this allows sewer gasses to seep up into the holding tank, and eventually into your unit. It is also important to make certain that you have the proper sewer hose fittings to ensure an airtight fit to the sewer system; this will ensure that any foul odours are kept contained in the appropriate area.
